The Nuclear Arms Race was the main focus of the Cold War, acknowledged as the competition between countries to achieve superiority in quantity and quality of military arms. This concept began in August 29, 1950, the first moderns arms race took place in France, which then spread to a bigger conflict between United States & USSR. After the end of War World I, control over the conquered areas of Eastern Europe was extremely fought for and the United States refused to recognize the Soviet state. The issue mentioned led to the creation of the first atomic bombs on earth, through the Manhattan Project, which were able to cause great damage through heat, blast, and radioactivity.
The world changed dramatically after the explosion of the Hiroshima bomb in 1952, previously to this event, it was agreed that any major Soviet attack against the United States would be met with a massive nuclear response, however the Soviet Union ignored the warning and exploded an atomic bomb, which started the arms race. Although this invention was considered an immense advancement in weapons, there was still a great emphasis on new weapon systems, mobile missile launchers were built and by 1981, the United States had created around 8,000 new weapons, as well as USSR who had built around 7,000.
